A1 & A2 (Beginner)
Spanish A1 is genuinely the most forgiving beginner level of any European language. The alphabet is almost identical to English. Pronunciation is phonetic — you say every letter. No silent letters, no complicated nasal sounds. A1 covers greetings, numbers, present tense and everyday situations. By the end of A2, you can write a short email, understand a basic conversation and navigate everyday life in a Spanish-speaking environment.
We've found that Indian students with English background typically clear A1 faster than expected. The shared vocabulary (hospital, hotel, natural, tropical, festival) helps a lot. And the verb patterns, once you've done French, feel very familiar.
B1 & B2 (Intermediate)
B1 is when Spanish becomes genuinely useful for work. You can express opinions, handle most real-world conversations and communicate in professional contexts. DELE B1 opens many doors — it's the study/work threshold for most Spanish-speaking countries and a meaningful qualification in its own right.
B2 is for professional fluency. DELE B2 is accepted by Spanish universities and employers. It's also the level required for Spanish citizenship in some visa categories. Most of our career-focused and study-abroad students target B2 as their final goal at LNS.
DELE & SIELE — Which Spanish Certificate Should You Take?
This is the question we get most often from certificate-seekers. And the answer matters because they're genuinely different tools.
DELE (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera):
- Issued by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of Spain's Ministry of Education — the gold standard since 1989
- Permanent validity — never expires. Your DELE B2 from 2026 is valid for life.
- Levels: A1 to C2 (six levels total)
- Paper-based, face-to-face speaking test with a real examiner
- Results: approximately 3 months after the exam
- In India: available 5–6 times yearly (April, May, July, October, November)
- 2026 exam dates in India: April 17, May 22–23, October 16–17, November 13–14
- Required for: Spanish citizenship, most Spanish university admissions, long-term residency
SIELE (Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española):
- Endorsed by Instituto Cervantes + UNAM (Mexico) + University of Salamanca + University of Buenos Aires
- Valid for 5 years — not permanent
- Levels: A1 to C1 (does NOT include C2)
- Digital/computer-based; flexible scheduling; remote proctoring available
- Results: typically within 3 weeks — much faster than DELE
- Numerical score system (not just pass/fail)
- Better recognition for Latin American contexts and professional use

Spain Spanish vs Latin-American Spanish — Which Should You Learn?
A genuine question that most Spanish courses just wave away. Let's answer it properly.
Both are mutually understandable. A Spaniard and a Mexican will understand each other fine, the same way a British person and an American do. But the differences are real:
Pronunciation:
- Spain Spanish uses the "th" sound for "c" (before e/i) and "z". So Barcelona sounds like Bar-theh-lona in Spain, but Bar-seh-lona in Latin America.
- Latin American Spanish doesn't have this distinction — it uses the "s" sound throughout.
Vocabulary:
- Spain: ordenador (computer) → Latin America: computadora
- Spain: coger el autobús (take the bus) → never used in Latin America (different meaning there!)
- Argentina uses vos instead of tú for "you"
Grammar:
- Spain uses vosotros for "you all" — Latin America universally uses ustedes
- Verb conjugations differ slightly for the vosotros and vos forms
Which should you learn?
- For BPO/voice process serving the US market → Latin American Spanish (neutral, US-market standard)
- For study or work in Spain → Castilian/Spain Spanish

The DELE or SIELE certificates are separate, independent exams you sit at the official centres on your own — we prepare you fully for those.
