DELF B2 Classes in Kolkata: French B2 Course and Exam Preparation

DELF B2 is the French diploma that universities and employers look for. It means you can argue a point, write a clear essay and follow normal-speed French. Our B2 course runs four to six months and around 80 to 100 class hours.
We run French classes in Kolkata from A1 to C2. This page is for people who already have B1 French, or who are planning the whole road from zero to B2, and want to know what DELF B2 needs.
LNS does not conduct or register students for DELF. You sit the exam at an authorised centre. We teach the level and train you for the paper. Our own internal exam and LNS certificate close the course.

What does DELF B2 mean, in simple words?
B2 is the fourth of six levels on the CEFR. The official name is “independent user”. You do not need help to cope with French any more.
At B2 you can talk with a native speaker without strain, follow the main ideas of complex text, write detailed essays and explain your view with reasons.
It is a big jump from B1. At B1 you survive in French. At B2 you work and study in it.
Who needs DELF B2?
- Students applying to French universities. B2 is the level most French-taught programmes ask for. Check your exact programme, because some want more and some accept other tests.
- Job seekers in French-linked companies. B2 on a CV signals real working French.
- Translators and teachers. B2 is the entry point. C1 is where paid translation work becomes steady.
- People aiming for Canada. Read the next section carefully. DELF B2 and the Canada tests are not the same thing.
Is DELF B2 valid for Canada PR?
No. This is the most common mix-up. For Express Entry, Canada accepts French results only from TEF Canada and TCF Canada. You can read the current rule on IRCC’s language requirements page.
B2 French is roughly the level behind NCLC 7, a benchmark that many Canadian programmes ask for. So B2 teaching is the right foundation. But the exam you book for Canada is different. See our TEF Canada and TCF Canada preparation page.
What does the DELF B2 exam test?
| Skill | What is asked at B2 |
|---|---|
| Listening | Understand longer recordings: interviews, news, talks. Pick out the speaker’s view, not just the facts. |
| Reading | Understand a long article and a text that argues a point. |
| Writing | Write an argued essay or a formal letter. Structure matters as much as grammar. |
| Speaking | Present and defend your opinion on a short text, then answer the examiner’s questions. |
Marking is the same as the lower levels: each skill out of 25, a pass at 50 out of 100, and at least 5 out of 25 in every skill. The diploma is valid for life.
Timings and task types are set by the exam body and can change. Check the latest sample paper before you book.
How long is the road from zero to B2?
At our standard pace each level takes this long:
| Level | Time | Class hours |
|---|---|---|
| A1 | 3–4 months | 60–80 |
| A2 | 3–4 months | 60–80 |
| B1 | 4–6 months | 80–100 |
| B2 | 4–6 months | 80–100 |
So a complete beginner needs about 14 to 20 months in total. That is a plan, not a promise. It depends on how much you practise outside class. Intensive batches and a placement check can shorten it if you already know some French.
What do you learn in the B2 course?
- Subjunctive, conditional and complex sentence building
- Connectors and the structure of an argued essay
- Reported speech, opinions and debate
- Listening to normal-speed news, interviews and talks
- Formal letters and emails
- Timed writing and speaking drills in the style of the exam
We give writing feedback every week. Many B2 students lose marks not on grammar but on structure, and weekly correction fixes that.
Which mistakes cost B2 students the most marks?
- Writing without a plan. The examiner reads for structure first.
- Learning phrases by heart. The examiner can hear it. Own words, even simple ones, score better.
- Skipping listening practice. B2 audio is natural speed. Daily listening is not optional.
- Leaving speaking to the last week. Speak every class, from the first month.
- Ignoring the minimum per skill. A strong essay cannot rescue a zero in listening.
What does the B2 course cost at LNS?
See the course fees page for the current fee for each French level, in classroom and online mode. Exam fees are separate and are paid to the exam centre.
Ask every institute what is included: mock papers, writing correction and speaking practice. Those cost the teacher time, and they decide your result.
