Our Story — Why We Started LNS Academy

When Haimanty and Biplab looked at Kolkata's language learning market, they saw a gap that kept bothering them. There were premium institutes charging fees most students couldn't afford, and there were cheap courses with very little actual teaching quality. Structured, qualified, affordable language training was hard to find — especially outside the large coaching clusters.

They started L&S Language Academy to fix that.

The name carries meaning. "L&S" reflects the dual focus at the heart of what we do — Language and Skills. Learning a language is one part; building the confidence and skills to actually use it is the other. We've always taught both.

Since opening, we've grown to offer 10 courses covering European, Asian and Middle Eastern languages alongside English. Students come to us for Germany nursing visas, Canada PR pathways, Gulf job opportunities, Japanese IT roles, university admissions in France and Italy, and everyday spoken English for interviews and corporate careers. The goals are different, but the approach is the same — structured, honest, qualified teaching.

Meet Our Founders

Haimanty Choudhury

Haimanty Choudhury is the co-founder and academic head of L&S Language Academy. She brings a strong academic background in language education and a teaching philosophy built around one core belief: students learn fastest when they're given a safe, structured environment to make mistakes.

Her approach to teaching is practical and direct. Before a student writes a single sentence in a foreign language, she ensures they understand why the grammar works the way it does. "Memorising rules without understanding the logic means you'll forget them. Understanding the logic means you won't need to memorise — you'll just know," she says.

Haimanty oversees course design, trainer selection and the academic quality of every batch at LNS. She is the reason our courses follow a consistent, audited structure — and the reason students consistently report that the teaching feels genuinely different from what they've experienced elsewhere.

Biplab Podder

Biplab Podder is the co-founder and operational head of L&S Language Academy. His focus is on the student experience from the first contact to the final certificate — admissions, batch structure, scheduling, trainer management and the systems that keep LNS running consistently.

What Biplab brings to LNS is clarity. He has no patience for vague pricing, unpredictable schedules or the kind of over-promises that are common in the Kolkata coaching market. "A student should know exactly what they're signing up for, what it costs, how long it takes and what they'll be able to do at the end. If we can't answer those questions clearly before they pay, we haven't done our job," he says.

Together, Biplab's operational rigour and Haimanty's academic depth form the core identity of LNS — a place where quality and accessibility aren't in conflict.

Our Trainers — Qualified Language Educators

Every trainer at LNS is recruited for one reason: they know their subject — and they know how to teach it.

Our language trainers are highly qualified educators with strong academic credentials, sourced from well-known colleges in Kolkata. Each trainer teaches only the language they have specialised in. We don't deploy generalist teachers across multiple languages; a German trainer teaches German, a Japanese trainer teaches Japanese, a French trainer teaches French.

This specificity matters. Language training is not a generic skill — the phonetics, grammar structures, script systems and exam formats of each language are different. Our trainers understand these differences deeply, because they've studied them formally and, in most cases, achieved high proficiency themselves.

New trainers at LNS go through an internal orientation that covers our course structure, our assessment methods and our teaching philosophy before they take a batch. We don't compromise on this process. The quality of teaching at LNS is consistent because the people we hire are consistently qualified — and because the systems behind the scenes are ISO-certified.

Our ISO 9001:2015 Quality Certification

LNS Language Academy holds the ISO 9001:2015 certification — the internationally recognised standard for Quality Management Systems.

In plain language, here's what that means for you as a student: the way we design courses, conduct assessments, select trainers and manage operations follows documented, audited processes. We don't make it up as we go. Each intake follows the same quality-checked structure as the last. That's what ISO 9001:2015 certifies — not just that we're "good," but that our good is consistent and auditable.

Most language institutes in Kolkata don't hold this certification. Earning it requires defining your processes, documenting them, following them and submitting to external audits that verify you do. We went through that process because we wanted a standard that held us accountable — not just to ourselves, but to an independent external body.

The ISO 9001:2015 standard is applied across industries from manufacturing to education. In our case, it covers the entire student journey — from enrolment and batch allocation to course delivery, internal assessment and certification.

How We Teach — Our Approach

Language teaching at LNS follows a conversation-first methodology. We believe the fastest way to learn a language is to start using it — not after you've memorised every grammar rule, but from the first week.

Here's what that looks like in practice: every session mixes instruction with speaking and listening practice. We drill vocabulary in context, not in isolation. Role-plays and real-situation practice are built into every level. Group discussion and partner practice happen in almost every class.

We keep batches small deliberately. A batch of 8–12 students means the trainer knows every student's weak points, not just the class average. Individual pronunciation errors get corrected. Individual writing weaknesses get addressed. Students don't get lost in a crowd.

At the end of each course level, we conduct our own internal exam and issue an LNS Academy course completion certificate. This is your formal record of training from an ISO-certified institute. It's separate from external certifications (Goethe-Zertifikat, DELF, JLPT, HSK, IELTS etc.) — which are independent exams you choose to take at their respective official centres. We don't register you for those exams or administer them.

Our courses align with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) — the A1-to-C2 international scale — so your progress is benchmarked against a globally recognised standard, whether you take an external exam or not.

Our centre is at 1no Airport Gate, Dum Dum — easy to reach from Dum Dum metro station and convenient for students from north Kolkata, Barrackpore, Lake Town, Belgachia and the Airport area. We also serve Salt Lake, New Town, Behala and the rest of Kolkata via our live online batches.
